Michael Arnold

Where engineering discipline meets
the stories that move people to act.

Michael Arnold has spent 30+ years solving problems at the root: in engineering, manufacturing, and leadership. Then he learned to tell the stories that make people actually want to solve them. That combination is rare. And it's what makes his keynotes, workshops, and coaching different.

Michael's Point of View

What problem solving is not.

Firefighting is not problem solving.

Fires are for marshmallows.

and

Guessing is not problem solving.

Guessing is for Trivial Pursuit.

Yet most companies rely on exactly that — guessing — to solve their most expensive problems. Fishbone diagrams. Five Why's. Tools that feel structured but are, at their core, just organized brainstorming about the most likely culprit. They surface symptoms. They rarely reach the root cause. And so the same fires come back, wearing slightly different smoke.

Michael has spent 30+ years in environments where repeating problems had real costs: measured in downtime, rework, and decisions made on incomplete data. That experience shaped a point of view, and that point of view shaped three frameworks he now teaches to leaders across industries.

Michael's Problem Solving Methods

Framework 01

The FAST Method

Root Causes. Real Solutions. Found Fast.

The FAST Method gives teams the 80% of problem-solving tools that actually reach the root cause not the most likely guess. Reliable. Systematic. Built for leaders who are tired of solving the same problem twice.

Framework 02

The ONE Priority

Focus. Accountability. What Matters Most.

Scattered priorities are a form of organizational guessing. The ONE Priority framework creates the clarity and accountability that lets teams stop chasing everything and start moving on what actually matters.

Framework 03

The 16 Strengths

Build the Culture. Not Just the Process.

Methodology without culture is just a tool people use when they feel like it. The 16 Strengths builds problem solvers, not just problem-solving processes, so organizations can find root causes with or without a consultant in the room.

Storytelling is not separate from Michael's technical work. It is the delivery mechanism for it. When the root cause is found and the solution built, someone still has to move a room full of decision-makers to act on it. That's where storytelling earns its place: not as an add-on, but as the final tool in every serious problem-solver's kit.

The Story

From Engineer
to Storyteller

Michael Arnold spent decades inside some of the most complex technical environments in manufacturing and engineering: diagnosing failures, leading teams, and solving problems that nobody else could crack. He was good at it. But he kept running into the same wall: he'd present the data clearly, and the room would still get lost.

01

The Data Problem

For years, Michael presented findings to managers and senior leaders and watched decisions stall. The data was accurate. The analysis was solid. But leaders got lost in it, and the moment was lost with them. He wasn't facing a data problem. He was facing a communication problem. So he started studying how he was telling the story around the data: learning to simplify ruthlessly, lead with the "ASK," and take leaders directly to the decision point. The result: faster clarity, faster decisions, faster action.

02

The Challenge That Changed Everything

A coach challenged Michael to get uncomfortable. So he did something he'd never done: he showed up at an open mic audition for TEDx Greenville. He had never spoken publicly before that night. He got the spot. That one act of discomfort opened a door he didn't know existed and he walked through it.

🚀  The Principle Behind the Work

"Build Your Taller Spaceship."

In high school, Michael learned he was three inches too tall to be an astronaut. Rather than give up on his dream, he became an engineer to build taller spaceships. He never built one. But the principle never left: when someone tells you the rules don't allow it, that's the moment to question the rules. It's the same instinct that drives his work today.

03

The Deep Dive

The engineer in Michael didn't just step on stage. He studied the craft. During COVID, he interviewed 50+ TEDx speakers, coaches, and organizers to understand what made the most impactful talks land, how great speakers found their big ideas, and how humor could be used to make messages genuinely stick. He applied the same root-cause discipline he'd spent 30 years perfecting to the art of human communication.

04

The Intersection

What Michael discovered through TEDx crystallized everything. A TED talk isn't just a presentation. It's an idea worth spreading, delivered in 10 to 15 minutes, designed to move someone to action. That's exactly what a technical leader needs to do every time they walk into an executive briefing. Today, Michael works with technical people — engineers, analysts, specialists — who have the data, the analysis, and the answers, but struggle to get decision-makers to act on them. He shows them how to simplify their data, wrap it in a story that connects, and lead with the ASK. So managers and senior leaders don't just understand the message. They move on it.

On Stage & Behind the Scenes

Ideas Worth Spreading.
Leaders Worth Developing.

Michael doesn't just deliver ideas on stage. He helps others find and share theirs.

TEDx Speaker Coach

Helping Others Find Their Idea Worth Spreading

After spending years studying what makes the most impactful talks land and what separates a talk people remember from one they forget Michael began coaching other speakers through the same process. He works with speakers to find their big idea, build a structure that moves an audience, and deliver it with the kind of clarity, humor, and humanity that makes it stick long after they leave the room.
